On the left a hand holding a heart representing health. On the right a skull representing poison. And in the middle a barometer, which turns green to the left and red to the right. It is yellow in the middle. This shows that the further to the left the barometer is, the healthier a product is and the further to the right, the unhealthier it is.

The EQNO-Score

The score has a scale from 0 to 100 and makes a healthy lifestyle as easy as possible for you.

The higher the score, the healthier the product. This is especially helpful when a food consists of many complicated ingredients. Or do you know what hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate or propylene glycol alginate is?

To crack the high score, all values must be right, not just the outer ones. But recognising the inner values is not that easy. With the EQNO score, we help you to bring the inner values of your favourite products to light.
Two milk cartons, each with an organic seal, are compared with two milk cartons with the EQNO score. The milk cartons with the organic seal cannot be distinguished. The milk cartons with the EQNO score, on the other hand, do because they each have a different score.

What is the EQNO score?

The score also helps you if two products are very similar and you cannot tell the difference.

We use diverse criteria to calculate the score. That is why it is very likely that different types of milk have different scores. This helps you decide which milk is better for you.

It is very simple:
1.
Search for a product or scan the barcode
2. Compare the EQNO-Score
3. Decide on the better product or the product with the better price-score ratio
A traffic light consisting of the three classic traffic light colours green, yellow and red. They each contain a number: green = 100, yellow = 89 and red = 74. The numbers each symbolize the maximum score for their colours.

The EQNO score and the traffic light system

Recognise quality at a glance!

Is the product healthy or should you use an alternative? Thanks to our traffic light system, you can see it at first glance.

Our traffic light system consists of the three classic traffic light colours green, yellow and red. If the score is high, the traffic light turns green. If the score is low, the traffic light turns red. In detail this means:

  1. Products with a score between 90 and 100 are green
  2. Products with a score between 75 and 89 are yellow
  3. Products with a score between 0 and 74 are red
We included all necessary information in the score. That is why you can be sure that a green product is really a healthy product and not just looks good.
There is a nutrient pyramid on the left and a variety of ingredients on the right. In the middle there is a plus sign, which signals that the score is calculated from both the nutrients and the ingredients.

How is the EQNO score calculated?

We calculate the score based on the nutrients and ingredients of a product.

There is a separate score for each, which together result in the EQNO score. We weighted both scores the same. So how are the respective scores for nutrients and ingredients calculated?

Again, we used our traffic light system here. We categorise all nutrients and ingredients as green, yellow or red. That happens based on their properties and effects on the body. This categorisation is the basis for the further calculation:

  1. Each Product starts with a score of 100
  2. We deduct points for each nutrient/ingredient
  3. green: 0 points per share
    e.g 0 points at 1.4% protein
  4. yellow: 0.5 points per share
eg 6 points for 12% fat
  5. red: 1 point per share
    e.g 66 points for 66% sugar
It is best if we take a closer look at an example.
On the left is a panel with the three traffic light colours and on the right a computer with a scientific formula and a university sign.

What are the advantages of the EQNO score?

The score saves you one thing above all - time!

Of course, you can turn every product upside down, search where all the information is, read the fine print of the asterisks or google the unknown ingredients. Or just use our score. Because we have already done the work for you.

With our score, you can compare products and specifically select the product that meets your expectations. And that independent and transparent.
